CB / Palomar Digicom 100 SSB transceiver
« on: October 21, 2017, 06:22:44 PM »
A ham friend of mine wants to give me a Palomar Digicom 100 SSB CB radio. From what I can tell, this radio was very well made and designed. It's the closest thing to a Commercial, (Non Consumer), CB radio you can get. It's huge though and I'm just not sure if I want to get involved with 11 meters or not. I think I can even move the PLL to 10 meters as it is programmable, not sure about that though. Does anybody know anything about this radio? BTW, its pretty clean, and works, and has never had a golden screwdriver in it. We shall see.

Antennas / Fiberglass pole holder
« on: September 06, 2017, 04:51:57 PM »
I just received my Flagplole mount. All I have to do is drive my little car onto the base plate and drop my Jackite 28ft fiberglass pole into it with my EFHW and Bob's your uncle!

Antennas / Trapped EFHW info
« on: June 11, 2017, 06:58:42 PM »
Hi all,

I normally use EFHW antennas for all my portable ops with a 28ft fiberglass pole, but they are all mono band, so I got this idea to make a multi band 20,40 meter EFHW using these traps from, http://www.sotabeams.co.uk/pico-traps-kit-pair/ I understand how to tune the traps, but I'm not clear on how to determine where to place the trap on the wire. I assume being as I want to use it on 20 and 40, that it needs to be approximately 66 feet long total length, but where do I insert the 20 meter trap, at 33 feet? I have done a lot of searching, but have not found a definitive answer on how to figure it. Do I build the 20 meter section first with the trap at the end and tune it to length, then add the 40 meter section? Any help would be appreciated.

Batteries & Solar / Best portable battey pack for QRP HF/CW
« on: May 11, 2017, 06:46:24 PM »
I'm sorry for asking this again, but is there any new technology in the way of portable battery packs? what do you all recommend? I'm tired of getting burned, (literally), from EBay LiPo packs, it seems they are all garbage. I have been looking at LifePO4 packs but they are so expensive. Any recommendations? I only want to run a 8 to 10 watt LNR Precision FX-4A for as long as possible at 11-12 volts with as little weight as possible, (I know the same thing everybody wants).
