The fourth video was shot at friend's near Bordeaux on my way back. I tried 40m in the afternoon and got sporadic reports on the Reverse Beacon Network. That was surprising as 40m is better in the evening. Power was then about 2W. I used the Hybrid Micro and MIL Whip mounted on a wheelbarrow :o I had two counterpoise wires, 60ft. and 10m (33ft?).

Afternoon reports were interesting... I was just making it above the noise on 40m:



After dinner, things improved dramatically with more receiving stations and better signal-to-noise ratios around 20:40:



I made four contacts:

  • DK6TR/P Germany, Tom near Munich, RST129.
  • DF55F Germany, RST 559.
  • IV3EAD Italy, RST 569.
  • LA9IAA Norway, Bjorn in Lardal, RST 549.

For a 10'8" whip, it is pretty good. Counterpoise wires contributed, no doubt, but with no tree around the whip makes contacts possible nevertheless.
