Hey, The Survivalist Blog published my article! It's been a couple months since I submitted it, so I was surprised to see it in my feed this morning. If I can get enough interest from folks, I'm going to write a few more and make it a series about getting started. I'd love some comments or feedback, good or bad.

Well done Ray,

What about a link to Radio Preppers in the comments  ;)

Gil.

I just did.  8)  Still shows "comment awaiting moderation," but it should show up on there fairly soon.

Nice work!  There are those that ride in the wagon and those that pull it.  You certainly did your share of pulling there!

Thanks Bob, I have a series of about 7 articles written so far, and I submitted the second one today. Hopefully I'll have as much luck this time around!

Nice job Ray!

Apparently a lot of people were looking for the plain english Ham info you provided.

Great read Ray - and great job!

Thanks for posting...when's the next installment.
If you're looking for me, you're probably looking in the wrong place.

I submitted my second installment (I have several more), but I don't know when or if it will be posted. I probably won't bother submitting any more of them, though. Over the last few days, someone else has been submitting basically the same series of articles that I've been writing, so it wouldn't do much good to just repeat them. But it was fun to see one published and that people enjoyed it!

Part 2 got published today! Still trying to decide whether parts 3-10 should be submitted or left in the can, though.  :-\

What a spectacular job, Ray!

Aside from content (which in your case is a done deal), I've been horrifically anal about proper spelling, grammar, and general proper use of English.  Working at ARRL HQ made me all the more so.

I couldn't find a single spelling error.  No misuse of grammar nor English.  Zero.  Nada.

I found it interesting that they spelled mHz as MHZ, while at the same time getting kHz right.  Mr. Hertz would be miffed, maybe, but I'm bettin' it was the "publisher" not the author in this case.    8)

It used to amuse me that the QST advertisers would submit copy that was full of errors (the most often of which was the use of apostrophes to indicate plurality)  and the staff at ARRL couldn't do a darned thing about it.  Still happens today; I see it a lot.

Nice work, Ray!  Ya dun gud, kid.

I spent a few years as a newspaper copy editor, so careless errors in spelling and grammar drive me absolutely nuts. When I was a sophomore in college, the curriculum for my major required me to take the first of many newswriting classes. The professor showed up on the first day and told us that the course would require two textbooks - an Associated Press style guide, and a Funk & Wagnall's College Dictionary. He then proceeded to tell us that our assignment for the week was the letter "A."  :o

Yes, it was a long semester.

He was also rather....err, demanding when it came time to grade projects. Every week, we'd be assigned to cover some event, newsworthy or not, and write about it. He'd make two passes through each paper. At the end of the first pass, he'd assign a grade based on the style and content of the article. The second pass, however, is where it got ugly.

Misspelled word? Letter grade.
Skipped a comma? Letter grade.
Incorrect homonym? Letter grade.

Never in my life was I more proud to finish the semester with an "A."  8)

First off, congratulations!

And thanks to carrying on the tradition imparted by your Marquis de Sade-like instructor.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant, etc.

Oh, how I miss those halcyon days of old in the newspaper business, back before the advent of word processing software and spell-checkers, and when "cut and paste" actually involved scissors, a wax roller and a light table.  :)
