Title: Just noticed a slight change to VOACAP
Post by: KC9TNH on July 25, 2013, 08:08:24 PM
As the Aussie prop page has been acting up for me I went to VOACAP this afternoon again & noticed something.  This is at their standard prediction page at:

http://www.voacap.com/prediction.html

It has a slight change which I like.  A multi-band color wheel divided by the 24hr ZULU clock.  You can set your points, power & mode and the wheel will change right there as you do each WITHOUT having to run the prediction and review the traditional chart each time.  (You can still run the prediction & get the regular chart for viewing or download if you want.)  But for many the all-on-1-page is likely to be quite welcome.  Color coding is the same, the darker orange you can get to red the better.  You can mouse-over (hover) over a particular 'chiclet' in the wheel and it will also tell you in detail the percentage of likely successful comms.  Underneath the map you'll get the distance & azimuth to your target.  Nice wheel.

Want to see an eye-opener, pick your starting point and somewhere on the other side of the country and compare what your options are with SSB, say at 100w.  If you're in the middle of the country, pick some exotic offshore island maybe.  Then simply change the mode to CW and see what's on the menu.

These are just general guidelines; propagation sites don't take into account sudden anomalies when there is a disturbance in the Force.

Are those VOACAP prediction somewhat reliable?
