Great info Ray. I did contact them a while ago but never found the time to really get involved. I know I should...

Honestly I almost did not buy it. It seemed more like a hack, which of course it is, but it is a good hack. There has to be a Hammond cast aluminum box that would fit it perfectly. The one I have is much larger but could host the batteries and maybe a solar charger. I still have to peak the RF on mine..

Excellent Ray! I even plan on getting a second one. I have an old unused Hammond cast aluminum case that might accommodate the boards.. For the type of operating we favour, thus radio is close to ideal. The 3D printed case is the only drawback. Well, maybe the screen, which isn't visible on a sunny day.. I will use mine as a CW radio with SSB as a backup.. The possibility to plus the radio directly into a solar panel with a USB output is awesome, for CW ony of course. Or one could power the radio with a laptop USB port and use JS8..

Hello.
i remember reading that most of the time the power supply it at fault, because of dried up capacitors... It could be a lot of things of course... You might want to join the WhatsApp PRC-320 group. I can have you subscribed with your phone number, just send it to me in a PM..

Welcome aboard :-) keep an ear out for me on week-ends!

I don't think it will come to that... As long as NATO doesn't get directly involved. They have been poking the bear with increasing aggressiveness and now we are again heading towards a cold war. In any case, I don't want this thread to get political so let's keep comments to practical matters directly related to survival and radio.
Ya'll have a great week-end :-)

Well, I don't think the 818 is particularly good as a mobile transceiver. I could be wrong... Probably better as a portable solution... Why would I order in Germany?

I can only agree! After the EFHW the inverted V is my favorite, especially for 40m NVIS.

New To Radio / Re: Visiting France
October 05, 2021, 04:38:23 PM
Bonjour :-)

1. I never had a problem doing so.
2. I'd say no. I do it all the time.
3. Depends what you call a shelter. A tent, generally no. In some places it is possible but between 7pm and 7am, and the tent must not be too tall, I think 1.2m max. Not sure though, search for other sources.
4. I do it all the time.
5. No problem.

I operate portable with my friends pretty much every other week-end and do exactly what you describe. I never had an issue. We have been "checked out" by the gendarmes a few times, as well as national park police. They just wanted to know what we were doing and were even somewhat interested... Mostly wanted to know if we could listen to their radios, LOL.. We were kicked out once off a site, abusively... Since then I carry park rules with me, on paper, to show them there are no restrictions about radio. The only thing they don't like is drones and 4WDs in many areas. We never had to deal with municipal or national police, but I suspect they would be more trouble. The gendarmes are very professional (military). Usually we don't see any uniforms...

Where are you going in France?
