Military Radios / Re: Clansman RT-320
March 15, 2024, 10:35:51 AM
It's quite all right to open old threads with relevant questions. The group you are asking about must be answered by Gil.

You can find much information about that radio in this forum. Just use the Search button and enter < RT-320 > and search in all boards. I got about 35 hits, you might find something useful, and further links.

If you are on Facebook, there are two Clansman groups, one private and one public:

Quote from: RadioRay on March 13, 2024, 10:07:54 AMThe reality is that I'm just not able to hike and enjoy outdoor radio much at all, these days: welcome to old age and injuries ;-)  .

I recognize that. I am in similar circumstances. Still, we must keep up spirits and hope for good times ahead!

Thanks, a good laugh! What do you think about this one:

I recognize the Redifon R50M receiver, my main RX 1968-69, when I was a Merchant Marine Radio Officer.

Quote from: Tom Line on January 13, 2024, 12:09:09 PMTrying to figure if Facebook group got smoked, or if it's just me.  Haven't been here for a while, and it's certainly more civilized here anyhow.

The Radio Preppers private Facebook group is certainly still there. 9,4 K members. Activity only 2 hours ago.

Quote from: gil on April 23, 2023, 11:26:59 PMYep, there was also the case of the ship Bounty, reproduction of the original, that sailed in a hurricane off the coast of Florida years ago. Their satellite comms failed in the storm but they were able to send an email to the coast guard via Winlink! If I remember well the captain did not make it but around 14 crew were saved (can't remember this second).

Thank you Gil, most interesting! I never heard about this. Here are more details:

For those who thought HF and MF can be scrapped and replaced entirely by satellite, you can read here what happened when one of the major providers of satellite service was hacked the day Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022:

Google Translate will do a decent job here if you don't read Norwegian.

A couple of background links about the break of communications:
