Interesting that he was only heard by 1 station and only once 5hrs apart.  Seems like a quick rig test rather than operating.
No recent spots for Gil on dxsummit.fi.

Much more now on RBN on the forty meter QRP freq.  Nice spots all over on 7030 / F4WBY .

I was listening on a European internet receiver and I am hearing a LOT of idiotic contest type contacts "5NN TU".  Gil is a communicator, so it would be nice if he connected with others who also enjoy communication, rather than this rubbish.

Being on the east coast I figure I've got the best shot at him, but looking at RBN he's only traveling a few hundred miles.  Right now the hrdlog.net QSO map shows massive activity between eastern U.S. and Europe on 20m.  Of course it's past midnight for Gil  :o

BTW Ray, I love the name of this thread.

I've decided what we are seeing on RBN isn't Gil.  He's on the south border of France in the Pyrenees Mountains but the few spots for his call aren't centered anywhere near there.  It's also just odd that there would be only one or 2 spots, and not far apart, each time he activates.  I'm guessing the RBN is picking up someone's bad fist or noise or something.

RadioRay

Ah!  I ran into that personally.  RBN doesn't have location data other than what is registered on QRZ.com. RBN showed plots flowing from my old home in Virginia, until I updated my FCC data which is how QRZ updates location.  Same for when my Wife and I are away from home and I fire-up a QRP rig: shows me at home in UTah.

Quite true.  What's throwing me off is that the "center of mass" of the skimmers receiving his call sign is centered around Munich.  I would expect the spots to be centered around the Pyrenees 600 miles away.  It's also weird that he's not getting out very far.  If he is in Munich drinking beer and operating form a hotel balcony he's only getting out 300 miles.  It all seems strange.  If things don't change by Monday we should consider sending out the search dogs. ;D :o

If you "rescue" him from drinking and chatting-up redheaded women (who know Morse code) , he's likely to hurt you - - - badly.   ha ha

The Gil Watch isn't going well ??? .  His last post sounded like he was going to Paris then Lourdes, France in the Pyrenees where the trek would start.  Only reverse beacon spots are centered around Munich and that was 2 days ago.  He's been gone 5 days and no radio spots near the Pyrenees.

I bet the trip isn't going according to plan and he's having a great time.  The best trips I've ever had, had a very vague itinerary, not much went according to plan and the winds of fortune blew me into some wonderful experiences.

Meanwhile...

I've been away for a while. Where's Gil? He's on a trip somewhere?
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Wednesday (8/17) he took off for 1-3 weeks on a "radio trek in the Pyrenees".  Here's the thread.

He brought his MTR so we know he's only doing CW and the reverse beacon network should be spying on him.  The only spots for his call are nowhere near the Pyrenees and the last one was Saturday.    I'm starting to think he met a redhead on the train and is in Munich.

cockpitbob

He's alive!

And he was up and operating early this morning.  But once again, he doesn't appear to be anywhere near the Pyrenees :o

cockpitbob

He's really cranking out the Qs today.  I'm starting to think he's somewhere in the Bavaria reigon instead of  Pyrenees.

Clic to enlarge the map, but Gil has been on 30 meters a lot today, which makes sense, due to stupid contests on weekends, preventing actual communication.

Looking forward to the after vacation report.
