If you are looking for an inexpensive way to start out kit building or would like a simple to build 5W 40 meter transmitter check out:

It is back in production and there are no coils to wind as they are printed on the circuit board. Low parts count makes this an easy to assemble kit.

Yes. Just an idea.. Maybe connect it to a GPS and Geiger counter shield.. I have other things to spend money on right now though so it might be a while... Also could be a position reporting system with just a GPS, transmission in Morse code...
