Net Activity / Re: Preppers Calling Frequency.

40m works for me as well though I'm not on it as much as I should be.  I tend to hang out more on 20m and here lately on 30m doing JT-65.

I like the idea of having an AmRRON-esque type of SOI.  It will help keep everyone's heads about them when the manure impacts upon the oscillating ventilator.

Thank God for forums!  :)

I had this same problem occurring on my Windows 10 Pro box after I installed the most recent version of FLDigi (v3.23.21).  The solution outlined above worked perfectly.

I use a 6m-40m endfed that I bought from KX3Helper.com.  I've worked all over the world with it.  I raise it up 26 1/2' into the air on a telescoping windsock pole from my back porch down to the feed point hanging off my backyard fence 6' up

An excellent choice, Hutch!  I've got the FT-857D, SignaLink, an LDG Z11 Pro II tuner and a 30A power supply all built into an army surplus medical supply case.  It also houses my accessory case, laptop, foldable solar panel and other cables.  This weekend I ran a length of RG-213 from the eave of my roof on the back of my house across my attic and down a wall so I can "play radio" (as my wife calls it) in air conditioned / heated comfort!  I can also take it to the field and operate from the bed of my truck

Shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to send ya some pics of my setup and answer any questions you might have!

General Discussion / Re: Field Day: What to expect?

Ours is more of a social gathering.  We work some contacts, shoot the breeze, sneak a sip from a frosty (read "adult") beverage, repeat.  For some reason people like my rig and gravitate over to it and I spend a good bit of the time doing a "Dog and Pony Show", which I'm perfectly fine with.  I usually get them to sit and work a few stations when I need a break.

I'll listen for some of you guys this weekend.  If anyone is from LA, NM, OK or NE I'll work ya with my own call too so I can finish up my Worked All States.

Have a good weekend, y'all.

I'm going to my club's usual campsite at one of the Corps of Engineers recreational areas.  My best friend just retired from the Army last week so he's gonna come out and hang with me and drink while I "play with my radio".  I'll be on 20m using my club call, W5SH.

From my time in MARS I seem to remember our antennae were to be 12 - 16' up...or 3 to 4 camo poles at the apex.

I thought you were more than fair in your comparison of the two antennas, Julian.

It sounds to me like Steve's a poor loser!  The word is out now.  The EZM is crap and now everyone knows it.  Don't feel bad about him being upset.  There's a really easy solution:  MAKE A BETTER FREAKIN' PRODUCT!!

SurvivalTechNord did a very good job with this series.  He could've easily let things degrade to just being snarky and petty; but I think he did a good "compare and contrast" of both products gave us his results.

That will be an interesting mix of people.  Somehow makes me think of a prepper "reality" show on TV.  One group they interviewed centered their preps around the idea of being well armed and just taking what they needed from the unarmed people around them.  Nice guys >:( .

Most of those guys will end up as chalk outlines on someone else's driveway when they pick the wrong house.

Have fun with that!  I worked a water stop at the Fort Worth Cowtown Marathon this year, mile 22.  I was there from 6:00 AM til a little after 2:00.  All I wanted to do afterwards was go home and take a nap.

I'm working the March of Dimes Walk for Babies next weekend.

Someone on the Survival Tech Nord youtube channel has the same issues: https://youtu.be/XXLVDTHz9GY

I just watch this and it's got me wondering about the continuity of the sections of the whip on my EZ-Military.

PVC parts?  Iffy continuity in the antenna sections?  Missing parts?  No wonder VbM doesn't allow comments on his videos that make it sound like this antenna is the Be-All and End-All.  I definitely haven't been impressed with mine.  No one's fault but mine.  I've learned this lesson.  Don't let it happen to you.

I'm using a tuner with my EZ Military whip and am seriously disappointed with it's results.  I still want to check the continuity of the sections.  I just haven't got around to it.

I mostly use a 6m - 40m end-fed that I got from KX3Helper.com.  It rocks!  I've worked all kinds of DX contacts as well as everything from both coasts from my place in DFW!  It rolls up nicely and fits in a ziplock sandwich bag!.

They probably will.  We have NASCAR races a couple times a year at Texas Motor Speedway.  Mostly they're just weather spotters watching for storms coming in so the powers that be can decide whether to evacuate.

I work a few events; the Cowtown Marathon, the Walk to End Alzheimer's and the March of Dimes' Walk for Babies.  I also do storm-spotting for our Emergency Management group.  These events do provide good training in how formal nets operate and how to interact with our served agencies.  Another benefit, albeit self-serving, is that one of the hospitals we work with serves as a point of distribution in the event that there's some sort of epidemic.  Emergency communicators would be among some of the earliest recipients if they're assisting with operations.  There's also the whole helping out your community thing.
