I've listened to Sunday night's RFR podcast where he talked about TREX.  I'm gonna be part if the next one I hope!

This guy has a pretty decent setup built around an 817.

First, get your license.  At least Technician level preferably General!

As far as antennas go, I like my 6m - 40m endfed from KX3Helper.com.

An alternate power source isn't a bad idea either.  You've got a setup so far though.

Batteries & Solar / Re: Building a 40 Ah Battery Box

The last of the parts came in yesterday (volt meter) so it looks like barring any Honey-Do's this weekend I'll be able to at least start on my battery box.

Once that's done I'll finally be able to test out the foldable solar panel and charge controller I bought months ago in preparation!   ::)

I've worked S51DX myself before!  Too cool!  I'll watch out for his brother.

Batteries & Solar / Building a 40 Ah Battery Box

OK, so apparently I've developed a fetish for building stuff.  With the HF station in a box 95% complete I got to thinking about what to power it by when off the grid.

The build blog for this and any other projects I can think of will be here:

I'll also post pics and videos here; but the most up to date stuff will be at the link above.

Feel free to offer and advice and/or criticisms.

Be gentle!  ;)

Not to say there's anything wrong with the 817, it's a fine radio; but I'd say save up a little more and go with the 857D.  My own personal taste though.

I like the LDG Z-11 Pro II tuner.

I agree with Gil on the end-fed antenna!  I have the 6m-40m end-fed from KX3Helper.com.  It is nice and compact and can easily be strung up in a tree or raised on the end of a 28' Jackite pole.

Welcome to the group and good luck!  Don't be a stranger!
