Title: Battery capacity for QRO
Post by: mehdi on May 24, 2018, 06:34:35 AM
Dear OMs
I have done my research and study on portable radio, but still need some personal advice.
My rig is Yaesu FT-891 and I want to go portable. It seems LiFePo4 is my best bet, but I have doubts about the capacity.
Initially I thought I need a bigger capacity (20-30Ah), but it seems even a moderate 12Ah would suit my need: 3-4 hours of QRO SSB.

This page (http://www.4sqrp.com/Battery_Capacity/index.php) says I can expect the 12Ah to last about 3.8 hours for a 15A TX on SSB (20 percent duty cycle)

I personally prefer the 12Ah to 20Ah (because it's lighter and easier to carry)
What is your experience? Do you think I can expect 3-4 hours from 12Ah? (I have seen OH8STN use 10Ah, but he uses a solar panel which I don't have yet)

See Julian's latest videos on the subject, you won't find a better source.
