Tactical Corner / Re: RTO Class / Brushbeater

I went last weekend. It was a very good basic class for the prepper to use inexpensive, off the shelf and homemade gear. He's a very competent instructor who brings years of military and ham radio education and experience into one class. He never plays Rambo or toots his own horn. He's very competent.

Has anyone attended the RTO Class by NC Scout? It's on the Brushbeater page. I'm going in August and wanted to get the rundown on what to expect.

Morse Code / Straight Key Cable
July 20, 2018, 07:06:17 AM
Good morning,
I'm working on getting a cable for my straight key & Yaesu FT-818 and my Youkits HB-1B.

My straight key is the J-45 (J-37 with leg clamp) military style key.

The Yaesu FT-818 states I need a 3.5mm 3 pin jack.

I've searched the web, YouTube and searched ham radio retail  sites. I can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks for your input.

Yes! That's what I'm looking for. Where did you find the 3x 18650 battery tray?

I'm interested in using an external battery pack, preferably AA batteries, to plug in to my Youkits HB-1B. An ideas?

I am looking for an external battery tray to plug in to switch out rechargeable AA batteries for a small QRP CW radio. I haven't purchased it yet but just want to know what to look for after I make a purchase.

I bought for my 817 a 455khz filtre CW.
Works great and makes the rig runs well on cw Mode.

However 817/818 is not a good plattform for morse Code, in fact, I sold it and get a Elecraft K2.

I think around 400Hz works great.

Good to hear! I'm assuming that's the narrowest band? Why would someone choose one of the other two filters for the Yaesu?
I've got a leg mounted straight key I plan on using with the setup. Thanks for the reply.
