Has anyone bought this and tried it out? Looks better than a used 817 radio but would still need more testing. Would think it would have a ANTENNA TUNER module to be comparable. Plus the HF AMP. Any combination that is less than $1000 I suppose.

Is it worth it for $250 versus a used HF radio ?

How does this compare to a simple SWR power meter?

Good one Sparks. I used Ham University on iOS and KMTPro on Android. I like the feature that lets you listen to current news in Morse code...

Gil.
Can't find ham university in IOS at all. Is this an old application ?

General Discussion / Re: Praise For The 80m Band and NVIS.

Thought NVIS was limited to 40m for the lowest frequency. That any NVIS below that would fail, like 80m?

Thanks for the tip! If only modern radios had Bluetooth built in... What are they waiting for?

Gil
I do not understand the lack of Bluetooth circuits in radios and other equipment.  Just installed a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my computer to make it more portable and immune to RF noise. Have no idea why manufacturers are not more creative about that.

New To Radio / Working with s7 -s9 noise

All equipment turned off. Running radio on car battery. Still s7 to s9 noise. Constant.

Could be neighbor equipment. Guessing.

New To Radio / Working with s7 -s9 noise
« on: May 07, 2016, 05:56:50 AM »
Am going to post this discussion on multiple forums in hope to get more thinking about this

How does a beginner work with s7 to s9 constant HF noise levels?  Living in an apartment that is what I see always.
There is no way to put up a large antenna outside, and even if I had that there is no guaranty that transmission/reception would work.

My only break through has been jt65 and some CW.  Hoping this can be discussed more to reduce hobby frustration for beginners on the HF bands.

I would also suggest a few YouTube videos on the subject.

Digital Modes / HF APRS
« on: April 28, 2016, 03:21:45 PM »
Am surprised there is not more talk of messaging via the message mode of APRS.  You can even send a text via a gateway that resides on APRS to do just that.  Combine that with some HF capabilities and you can communicate anywhere in any conditions.

The latest I am looking at is called ROBUST  PACKET to get through when all other paths are too noisy.

You did not mention Droid APRS too as an app.
