Did wonder what the working conditions were of both stations and if you have made a ssb contact since. Larry

VHF and Above / Re: Extend Range With 2m VHF SSB Radio.

Well I got a Yaesu FT-726R all mode 2m/70cm/6m transceiver and my 2m Halo has just been delivered. Give it a week or two to get all up and running and I will be good to go. That is if anyone is on 2M SSB.

That is the good thing about having  a Ham wife, if all else falls I can drive off 40 odd miles and talk to her on the car's FT-857 and a portable 2m beam antenna. No money wasted.

I will give it a try. Will sit on 3.685 for a week and see if is used for any regular nets. Will let you know. Have been monitoring 7185 USB and putting out the occasional call with no response thus far.
There being no NIVS on 40M it is hard to work inter G on this frequency. Larry

I wondered if anything yet has been desided for a 80m Prepper calling frequency. If not I will throw my hat into the ring and suggest 3.675 USB for UK inter G and parts of mainland Europe.

My group would be willing to do some testing to see if this frequency is suitable.

Thanks for that Ray. Yes I agree 40m NVIS is a no no for us in the Uk.

Oftern think of Prepper communications as ripples on a pond. The most important stuff happens on your doorstep. In my case that is in my Village with my Group and Uhf covers that well. As the ripples go outwards I think of 2m FM, 80m Ground wave, 2m SSB, 80m NVIS and on up to 40 and 20m mainly for information gathering.

A Radio Prepper and a Radio Ameture are two different horses me thinks.

Hi Gil

Have subscribed to your YouTube channel and really like the idea of a Prepper's HF frequency. Practicing morse every day now, I do struggle with it but overall I am sure it is worth the effort.

I am an active member of Uk Raynet in North Anglia and have been for over 10 years.

Basically a homestead sort of Prepper with a small group. We all live in the same little village and have our own Radio UHF network. As we all live within 1/2 km of each other PMR/FRS work well for us.

Best wishes Larry.
