Awesome! 8)

I'll never forget my QSO with RI1ANT in Antarctica 10,700 miles away using my Ten-Tec R4020 and 63' wire EFHW antenna.  Power was probably 3W because shortly after looking up who he was, doing my happy dance and logging the contact, the rig switched itself off due to low batteries.
When the propagation God's are smiling on you CW is just amazing.

Bob, I worked Mike, RI1ANT also on 4/7/2014 on 17 meters SSB using a BitX17 I built. I was getting about 7 watts out of it. I'm looking at the QSL card as I type this. 10,300 miles on 7 watts! Best DX ever.

Hi Gil,

I saw a  Pietempol at a air show years ago, If I remember correctly it had a VW engine in it. I was a cute little plane and flew very good. If you decide to build one of those, you'll never afford to get your sail boat back :). Those spruce spars are really expensive from AS&S.

You should have a good time with the MTR. I look forward to your video.

Joel,
Tri-Pacers (I call them flying milk stools), T-carts, Chiefs, Champs (I soloed in a 7BCM, 85 horse Champ) and building a Tailwind.  It's like you are talking dirty to me.  I'll be in my bunk (with an EAA magazine). ;D

Funny stuff Bob, I'm still laughing :).

Bob,

Nasal Navigation is funny, being as we did a lot of barnstorming I was always smelling stuff from the air, like the rendering plant in the middle of summer, where all the dead livestock went to :o. Of course some of the best times I remember was when the Almond trees were in bloom, wow! did that smell good from about 1000 ft. The cabin Stinson was a nice aircraft, I rode in one a few times. Pacers are great too but not the Tri Pacer, I always got sick riding in the back seat of a TP. My Dad had a 1940 BC-12 Taylorcraft, it was sweet, low and slow. My brother has owned about 20 planes, currently he has a Chief and a Champ all restored and is building a Whitman TailWind. Expensive hobby compared to Ham radio.

Back in my flying days, I bought a Piper Vagabond, (PA-15), for $2500 which was nothing but a clipped wing Cub with a short fuselage. It was a cute little plane after restoration. I miss those days, but I'm too old and too broke to fly anymore.

Batteries & Solar / Re: My New Favorite Battery Pack
September 11, 2017, 06:54:13 PM
Hi Bob,

I received my power bank today and I really like it, except the ON switch  fell apart when I took it apart to install the batteries. Other than that it works great. I ordered  20 of the little switches from HK, it will take a month or more, (slow boat). Meanwhile, it works well if I short the contacts with a small screw driver. Oh, and it's blue like yours, YaY! Thanks for the tip.

Antennas / Re: Fiberglass pole holder
September 07, 2017, 05:41:22 PM
Yeah, it was only $29 from Amazon. I was going to build one myself, but I could never have done such a nice job. It's made out of heavy grade Aluminum and powder coated, very nice. Now I just need the smoke from all the fires to go away so I can go out portable.

Antennas / Fiberglass pole holder
September 06, 2017, 04:51:57 PM
I just received my Flagplole mount. All I have to do is drive my little car onto the base plate and drop my Jackite 28ft fiberglass pole into it with my EFHW and Bob's your uncle!

Hi,

This is the one I build, I must have about 8 or 9 by now. They work great for QRP. https://pa3hho.wordpress.com/end-fed-antennes/multiany-band-end-fed-english/

I just finished reading the circuit description in the manual, wow! Hans has really thought this radio out, in fact there are a lot of features for the price. I really like the class E final amp. A couple of years ago I built the NM0S NS-40 CW transmitter which is also class E amp and very efficient, 5 watts out of a IRF-510 that runs cool without a heat sink. I'm kind of surprised Hans didn't one Mosfet vs three of the smaller BS-170's. Anyway, this is going to be a cool radio. Building in the tools to balance the I/Q phase is a nice touch too. All for 51 bucks:-)

Ah, I look forward to part 2. I love DSB radios and have built many of them. The last two have DDS VFO's in them with small OLED dispays, they work great even on AM mode.

Batteries & Solar / Re: My New Favorite Battery Pack
August 27, 2017, 05:44:47 PM
Hi Bob,

I got them from, https://www.banggood.com/Seiko-Protection-IC-10A-Protection-Board-For-3S-11_1V-12V-12_6V-18650-Lipo-Battery-p-1107660.html?rmmds=search

The schematic is on this page.
The pictures in the BanGGood ad say V 1.01, but mine actually have V 2.0 printed on them.

Batteries & Solar / Re: My New Favorite Battery Pack

Bob,

Thanks for reverse engineering it. I do the same thing as you, I have a balance charger and periodically balance them then stick them back in pack, it seems to work fine for me. My protection boards arrived today, so now I can build a few more packs. I still look forward to the pack I ordered, its so nice and compact. Hope it's blue like yours, it will probably be pink.
