Quote from: KE5ES on November 12, 2022, 07:02:04 PMI got Bulgaria LZ3FA from Texas using the sparkplug antenna and 5 watts.
Excellent! I guess the solar cycle is slowly coming back!

General Discussion / Re: Which radios
October 31, 2022, 02:34:05 PM
Same as Ray on second and third position, but my number one is the Elecraft K1! Maybe because I built it... Actually I built two and owned three, still own one I did build. It analog... No DDS, no DSP, pure unadulterated analog sound goodness :-) You can listen to it for hours without tiring. It's also super cute, which is always a plus. Current draw is only 50mAh and power output around 6W. It has a built-in auto tuner. I only wish I had kept my four-bander. For my current build I chose 30 and 80m, though I do not use 80m often for lack of an antenna at home. I only wish Elecraft would make an updated version, still fully analog, in the same case, maybe with five or six bands and of course still offered as a kit, but unfortunately it's not going to happen..

Hello,
Indeed it has been slow.. I think also that the "unread posts" feature doesn't always work for some reason.. I have clearly missed posts I had not read yet..

Net Activity / Armageddon Frequencies.

the world being on the brink of a global conflict we need to make sure we can stay in touch to exchange survival information. This thread is for you to post frequencies you or your network might use to communicate, related or not to your location. Make sure you copy everything you see here on paper... Protect your electronics in Faraday cages.

If the SHTF I will monitor 10123KHz CW and JS8 on 30m.
Locally (Antibes France) I will monitor 145.5MHz FM and PMR CH3.
As long as it will remain active I will also be on the Mt Agel repeater.

Antennas / Re: Do you feel robbed?
September 28, 2022, 06:55:50 AM
Absolutely.
These antennas can be replicated for just a few dollars and will work just as well. The only difference will be build quality and ruggedness, but even that can be approximated, if not equaled without CNC machining..

Well, you're not robbed if you're not forced to buy it...

VHF and Above / Re: 6m and 2m all mode recommendations

Icom has the IC-551 I think it is... I have the IC-251, which is a 2m all-mode transceiver. It's not a small QRP transceiver but still somewhat portable...

CB / Re: SWR 5 ! What is happening ?
July 23, 2022, 01:42:41 PM
Hello,

It could be a few things... I would suggest to check the ground connection to the chassis. Or it could be a bad connection... The location of the antenna in relation to the car body might be an issue as well... Let me know what you find. Post a photo maybe...

Great info Ray. I did contact them a while ago but never found the time to really get involved. I know I should...

Honestly I almost did not buy it. It seemed more like a hack, which of course it is, but it is a good hack. There has to be a Hammond cast aluminum box that would fit it perfectly. The one I have is much larger but could host the batteries and maybe a solar charger. I still have to peak the RF on mine..

Excellent Ray! I even plan on getting a second one. I have an old unused Hammond cast aluminum case that might accommodate the boards.. For the type of operating we favour, thus radio is close to ideal. The 3D printed case is the only drawback. Well, maybe the screen, which isn't visible on a sunny day.. I will use mine as a CW radio with SSB as a backup.. The possibility to plus the radio directly into a solar panel with a USB output is awesome, for CW ony of course. Or one could power the radio with a laptop USB port and use JS8..
