Title: Sat images portable
Post by: Sailor on October 08, 2014, 03:07:58 PM
Anyone know of a way to get NOAA sat images portable to my Droid phone?

I have an Ft-857d, I have the weather fax app but coverage really is not available in the middle of the country for this.

Looking for alternatives, maybe someone who broadcasts regularly over SSTV?

Good question.  I was hoping for some informed replies.  I've also got an FT-857D and am interested in this.

Apparently you can receive them directly off the satellites (~136MHz) with a stationary antenna (egg beater or discone), though a yagi on a tracking system is better.  Lots of stuff on the web, just no time to dig that deep.

Interesting, I'd like to know how to do that with my KX3 for sailing purposes...

Sailing is easy just use the droid app HF Fax.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wolphi.wefax (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wolphi.wefax)

Marine areas are covered.

It is flyover country that does not have the coverage.

Sailor, that's great.  Don't even need an audio cable.
(applauded your S-meter)
