Antennas / Re: Antenna wire

QuoteBut does this method work when you are using insulated wire ?

It should... I prefer to spool the wire on a stick... What I usually do though is simply cut the wire little by little, noting how many KHz change I get per inch.

Hello. I just can't really write much faster than about 15wpm... I might be able to push to 20 on a very good day, but not faster. That said, I have never really tried using a keyboard. The reason is that since I operate mostly portable, I do not carry a computer with me... So for me, above 20wpm, it's head-copy only, but I miss a lot...

Hello. Writing on Paper is a double-edge sword... Above 15wpm you better just try to form words in your mind... Writing IMHO is for just about 12-15wpm... I would never suggest learning the code any slower...

Antennas / Re: EFHW sloper array?
December 06, 2019, 03:50:42 AM
Hello. I think it would work. I have seen videos of people using multiple fishing poles to make a vertical Yagi-Uda on HF.. I see no reason why it wouldn't work as a sloper.. Not sure about the radiation pattern, but you would get gain...

General Discussion / Re: Rig Expert Ukraine Ltd.

Good stuff from what I hear. I asked them for a sample to test and make a video but they declined, which I understand. I got the EU1KY model for much cheaper and so far it works fine. The Nano VNA is the new kit on the block though for $50...

General Discussion / Re: SDR vs superhet : after disaster

Hello.
Probably, and I have nothing against SDRs, if they do have a human interface and can be used without a computer...

That's what I used, but I started too slow, and now I have trouble reaching 20wpm... You did well to start at 15, which is probably the minimum...

Antennas / Re: Broadband Butterfly- anyone use one?
November 23, 2019, 11:59:43 AM
Nerver used one, but if I had the space I might be tempted, though you probably need to pump some power into it to make up for the losses in the resistor...

Hello. I think it's just adding extra unneeded steps to the learning process. My best advise would be to just listen to the sound and visualise the letter, period.

I made a video about this... Something I call "knowing your RF landscape."

Antennas / Re: Magnetic antenna query
November 16, 2019, 05:53:41 PM
It is a vast subject... Let us know if you find anything ;-)
Probably a lot of antennas have been discovered by trial and error. The science is there to verify findings, but I don't think it can offer solutions. I believe a lot of informed intuition goes into designing an antenna...
