Straight Key Cable
« on: July 20, 2018, 07:06:17 AM »
Good morning,
Iím working on getting a cable for my straight key & Yaesu FT-818 and my Youkits HB-1B.

My straight key is the J-45 (J-37 with leg clamp) military style key.

The Yaesu FT-818 states I need a 3.5mm 3 pin jack.

Iíve searched the web, YouTube and searched ham radio retail  sites. I canít seem to figure this one out. Thanks for your input.

The photo hasn't shown up. Perhaps it needs approved.

I imagine, though, that they are referring to one of these...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stereo-3-5mm-Headphone-Earphone-Replacement-Audio-Jack-Plug-Solder-Connector/152458137263?hash=item237f368eaf%3Am%3AmEMMQomgl3aXhXEzuz5jN1A&var=451774951316&_sacat=0&_nkw=3.5mm+stereo+plug&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311.R4.TR10.TRC0.A0.H0.X3.5+mm+stere.TRS0.TSS0

I've also taken old earbud cables and use those. Some of them have really small wires inside and so are too fragile but the ones with decent sized interior wire make good key cables.

I have to find a solution for my still unused Yaesu FT-817ND, and I assume the two are similar in this respect.

The question is also discussed here, with some solutions suggested:
