Hello.
I used to own a KX3, and was dumb enough to sell it, big mistake.

Thanks Sparks. They don't mention much about comms. I wish I remembered where I got that information...

Thanks Sparks. Julian and I are in contact and might have some common stuff down the pipe...

Great point Ray, I didn't think about the broadcasting thing.. HF will be heard somewhere most of the time, and any radio operator would jump on a distress like it was his life's mission!

Hello Ray :-)
Yep, there was also the case of the ship Bounty, reproduction of the original, that sailed in a hurricane off the coast of Florida years ago. Their satellite comms failed in the storm but they were able to send an email to the coast guard via Winlink! If I remember well the captain did not make it but around 14 crew were saved (can't remember this second)..

Hello.
One only has to subscribe to satellite TV and wait for the first storm to know that satellites do not always work!

Hello.
I would not hesitate to get one if the BF amplifier issue has been resolved, but I do not know if it is the case..

Hi, I tried one. It has just one weakness, the BF amplifier. Common-mode currents can fry it. At least it was the case when I tried it. I know, because I fried it and had to explain that to its owner... It is/was? a known issue. I do not know if it has been fixed in recent models...

Thanks Marjamada.
Unfortunately the forum has fallen into disuse.
Hopefully that will change. Thank you for your post.

Excellent! I guess the solar cycle is slowly coming back!

General Discussion / Re: Which radios
October 31, 2022, 02:34:05 PM
Same as Ray on second and third position, but my number one is the Elecraft K1! Maybe because I built it... Actually I built two and owned three, still own one I did build. It analog... No DDS, no DSP, pure unadulterated analog sound goodness :-) You can listen to it for hours without tiring. It's also super cute, which is always a plus. Current draw is only 50mAh and power output around 6W. It has a built-in auto tuner. I only wish I had kept my four-bander. For my current build I chose 30 and 80m, though I do not use 80m often for lack of an antenna at home. I only wish Elecraft would make an updated version, still fully analog, in the same case, maybe with five or six bands and of course still offered as a kit, but unfortunately it's not going to happen..
