Learning Morse on Android devices.
« on: January 21, 2016, 04:16:22 PM »
Hello,

Since I just switched from an iPhone to an Android phone (Samsung S6 Edge +), I needed an app to keep my speed up until I build a new radio.. Ham Morse on iOS worked great, but it isn't found on Android. I spent an hour looking for a replacement, most importantly something that would play RSS news feeds. What better way than listening to the news in Morse code?!

The app is Koch Morse Trainer Pro (KMT Pro), for $3.13 if I recall. No other app that I saw seemed to play news feeds... It has a lot of features on top of the Koch method.

I have no connection to the developer, but this one gets my thumbs up

Gil

What better way than listening to the news in Morse code?!

I frequently listen to this on my MacBook, and it works very well on my iPhone, too:

Stream Title: CNN Breaking News in Morse (30/25/21 wpm)
Stream Description: CNN's "breaking news" Twitter feed converted to Morse Code
Content Type: audio/mpeg
[]
Click to Listen: http://cw.dimebank.com:8080/CNNmed.m3u

In my quote I included the link to:
CNN Breaking News in Morse (30/25/21 wpm)

There are other links to other speeds, too:
CNN Breaking News in Morse (25/21/18/13 wpm)
CNN Breaking News in Morse (50/47/44/41/38 wpm)
CNN Breaking News in Morse (15/13/10/7 wpm)
CNN Breaking News in Morse (40/36/33/30 wpm)

There are also links to these two training sites:

Mount Point : (/NN9U) Stream Title: NN9U's CW practice tables
Stream Description: Tables of digraphs, trigraphs and common English words taken from NN9U's article in the January 2009 QST
Stream URL: http://www.arrl.org/qst/?month=1&year=2009 [This link does not work, it seems.]

Mount Point : (/W1AW) Stream Title: W1AW CW practice
Stream Description: W1AW practice text, from high speed (40) to low (13)
Stream URL: http://www.arrl.org/w1aw/morse.html

Thanks, great stuff guys. Another one that seemed interesting was "Deluxe Morse Attack."
